Since no dine-ins are allowed during the second Movement Control Order (MCO), it has somehow impacted eateries and forced them to only do take away or use food delivery services. For some Malaysians, it’s hard to adapt to the pandemic as they used to eating outside with their friends.
This somehow gives an idea to this one local chain restaurant in Cyberjaya, to come up with a smart way for customers to enjoy their food. Padi House lets diners to enjoy meals from the safety and comfort of their vehicles. To be more precise, they just started a drive-in service for people who wish to eat out during a lockdown.
The parking area is full of cars lining up, waiting for their turn to order food. The restaurant went viral overnight and became a hit among Cyberjaya residents after some people shared their “Dine-In Car” experience.
Padi House restaurant let diners enjoy eating their food with proper dining set from the comfort of their own cars
In just a few minutes, servers pop out of the restaurant, fully equipped with face shields, face masks and plastic gloves and begin taking diners’ temperature. Once diners have checked in with their MySejahtera apps, the serves then hand out laminated menus filled with choices of local, western and Japanese food. Diners only need to order food through the vehicle windows.
Servers will provide two trays for the driver and the passenger to eat their food. One tray attached to the steering wheel while the other fits in the narrow space on the passenger side.
Diners can choose set meals as low as RM10
Servers will begin to serve the food and each dish carefully secured to ensure proper hygiene is maintained. After diners were done with their meal, their trays and cutleries would be collected for cleaning and sanitisation.
According to the owner of Padi House, they have kept the menu prices as low as RM10 and each meal comes with a set of drink and dessert. Leow said they kept the prices so low during the second MCO because they intend to make just enough profit to pay their workers and keep the restaurant going.
The restaurant also has an online site where diners can preorder their meals and straightaway park their car and wait for the servers to come. This could save more time for diners who have not enough time to enjoy their meal at lunchtime.
